Behind The Lens

Location

Sowcarpet, Chennai, India

Time

This photo was taken during the early hours of the day when people were getting out into the streets to celebrate Holi with friends, family and everyone who was in the street

Lighting

The lighting wasn't too bright at the particular spot. Since the area is surrounded by buildings, the lighting keeps changing based on the spot that you are at as I kept walking around to capture different people and moods during the celebration.

Equipment

Nikon D3300

Inspiration

I came across this kid accidentally as I was capturing images of the Holi festival. He was standing beside me and something about the kid and the look in his eyes was so intense and fascinating, I feel that's what made this capture memorable and special apart from the colours he had on his face.

Editing

I did a bit of post-processing in lightroom.

In my camera bag

D3300 and a couple of lenses

Feedback

One needs to be sensitive towards the surroundings and cultures and values when taking pictures of people and be one among them. Always carry a smile, that builds an instant connect and trust and they let us into their space and give us an opportunity to bring out the best from the subject.
