Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at my home studio, set up for dramatic dark environment photography.

Time

The shot was taken in the evening, as the studio has a lot of natural light flooding in during the day.

Lighting

I used two box lights for this shot, each with a color filter. I then desturated the color of the photo until only a hint of the original color remained.

Equipment

The setup was quite simple. Two box lights, each with a colored filter gel over them. The photograph was then desturated to leave only a hint of color.

Inspiration

I was keen to try out my new camera and I asked a friend if he would be willing to pose for the shots.

Editing

The only post processing on the photo is a few tweaks to curves and nearly completely desaturating the image with only a hint of color remaining.

In my camera bag

My setup is very simple. I have a few go-to lenses and do my best to use them to my advantage.

Feedback

Keep trying different things with dark studio photography. You typically need a lot of space to pull off the dark look. A black backdrop certainly helps as well!
