Behind The Lens

Location

This was shot in the mountains of Yemen in Al Hutaib. There's this singular rock on top of the mountain, and this beautiful tiny mosque sits on the rock offering mesmerizing views on all sides.

Time

This was very early in the morning, before sunrise. I had started my climb an hour before sunrise to reach the top well in time to catch the golden hour.

Lighting

I waited for that perfect moment when there was enough light to capture the beauty of the mosque with the sky in red orange hues.. I used my tripod to get a long exposure and soften the colours on the horizon.

Equipment

I had a very basic DSLR camera, Canon 550D along with 18-135 lens and a light but sturdy tripod.

Inspiration

The love of mountains, architecture and sunrise always inspire me and the prospect of getting all three in a single frame was just unmissable.

Editing

I usually don't post process much in my pics, I like to keep them as natural as possible. I just do a little tonal adjustment, softening of colours or adjust the contrast.

In my camera bag

I always pack my bag with my camera with the suitable lens for the occasion, extra batteries, memory card, and ofcourse some chocolate to keep up the energy levels and drinking water.

Feedback

Just try and keep it simple. Don't try to add too many elements into the pic, look for a good composition, and wait for the perfect light conditions. Take at least 10 shots with slightly different camera settings until you are satisfied with the result.
