Our Lady of the Rocks is one of two islets off the coast of Perast in the fjord-like Bay of Kotor (Montenegro). It is an artificial island. As the story goes, in 1452 two brothers fishing at this location discovered an icon of the Madonna and Child painted by Lovro Dobricevic sticking out of a protruding rock. They took this as a sign and vowed to build a church there. The island was build by townspeople dropping rocks there we safely returning from voyages, Old ships filled with rocks were also scuttled there to create the island. Records show there was a church on the island by 1484 the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks is now a popular tourist destination.
