Behind The Lens

Location

In my back yard in Phoenix

Time

It was afternoon about 3pm.

Lighting

The lighting was kind of challenging as it was very bright out, I had to use a fast shutter speed, and all I had for flash was my speedlight. I cranked my speedlight up to 3+ stops and shutter speed was 5000ths if I remember correctly (my camera supports flash sync which is important if you want to try that) I was using a nikon 28-300 zoom at 300mm from 3.5 feet away. It's a great all around lens and my only telephoto but it focus breathes pretty heavily so I still had to crop a lot.

Equipment

Handheld, Nikon d850, Nikon 28-300 zoom, and sb600 speedlight

Inspiration

I love animals especially birds. They are really wonderful.

Editing

Just a crop.

In my camera bag

My favorite is my d850 and nikon 105mm f4 macro. I keep the 28-300 for flexibility its not necessarily the best at anything but it beats missing a shot when changing lenses.

Feedback

Sit quietly near the feeder, humming birds are brave, once they get used to you after a few minutes they will sip nectar and ignore you while you take pictures. Please visit palagonphoto.com to see higher resolution. Thx
