Location
This photo was taken just over the road from my home. We live in a beautiful setting and the opportunities for photographers are just amazing. I love being outdoors and this changing backdrop just out my front door is amazing.Time
This was a very cold and misty morning and the sunrise colours were soft and dreamy. I took this image at 7.41am on 7/5/2020.Lighting
I wanted the image to reflect the cotton-candy look without being over exposed with the rising sun, so I increased the aperture and had ISO on 100.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D90 on a 18-300mm lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I knew what the weather forecast was for this morning an knew that there would be mist around, so I wanted to capture the whimsical effect of the mist on the water.Editing
Due to the fact that I did not want the sunrise over exposed, I did under expose the image a little on purpose and knowing that I would lift the exposure in Lightroom afterwards, I made sure that the ISO was low so that it would not create too much noise with the mist around. I also increased the blue primary to enrich the overall color in the photo. In my camera bag
I usually go out to shoot birds, so my regular set-up is my Nikon D4 and my 150- 600mm lens. I always have my other lenses handy to shoot landscape etc. these include: 105mm, 70-300mm, 24-120mm and 50mm. Then I do have my remote shutter and tripod as well.Feedback
Patience and out-of-the-box thinking is the best tools to pack for any genre of photography. Always pay attention to the light around you, because ultimately the light will determine the image. Take a moment when you arrive at your location to look for interesting perspectives and ways that you can bring that element of intrigue into your image.
