I met Hassan as a fellow hitchhiker in Turkey and we got the same ride to the coast for camping, swimming, cliff jumping and sharing deep conversations. We met up in Istanbul a few weeks later and he let me snap this photo. He's an eccentric journalist & a beautiful soul.

Location
While exploring with my new friend Hassan (pictured above)in Istanbul, we found a dark room with the natural light radiating through a small crevice. This photo turned was the result of placing Hassan right where the light was shining through. This photo makes me so happy as it captures his eccentric spirt. We had met a few weeks earlier while hitchhiking on the coast of Turkey (separately) & being picked up by the same driver. Was then invited by Hassan to go camping on the coast with a huge group that created the event through a forum called "interail Turkey". Turkey forever has such a magic filled piece of me.Time
From what I remember, it was late afternoon, early evening.Lighting
The crevice that the light spilled through was perfect in lighting his face while leaving the background dark & mysterious. Most of my photos are intuitive & not strategically planned. I love how moody this one turned out.Equipment
I had a canon 7D with a 24-105mm L series lens that I took traveling for this 6 month backpacking journey that I was on.Inspiration
I had my camera with me while we were exploring & I knew that I wanted to take a portrait of him. His energy felt so familiar & we were instantaneously connected due to meeting in a strangers car while on separate hitchhiking journeys.Editing
Yes, I made the already dark room a bit darker to really accentuate his beautiful face.In my camera bag
Since most of my camera gear has been stolen, I now am rebuilding my set up. Currently using a Sony A6000 with a Rokinon 35mm 1.4. I love this lens so much. I bring a tripod when necessary.Feedback
I say trust your intuition. Whatever you're feeling, allow it to take you down that desolate alleyway, up that tree, to new countries and anywhere that speaks to you. Nobody thinks like you, so trust that as long as you're not feeling external pressure of opinions that you will create something completely unique. Also, enjoy your process. What is the point of taking a camera out unless you are enjoying your creative process. If you don't enjoy it, you should rethink what that process is & how you can make it more in alignment to you as well as what you're trying to create.
