This photo was taken at my favourite beach...Werri Beach,NSW,Australia. The surf was up and the swell was quite powerfulTime
This was taken in mid afternoonLighting
The sky was rather forbidding being more of a stormy blue and low cloud. Occasionally you could get a glimmer of brighter light from the west.Equipment
The camera was purely hand held and i used a 70-300mm telephoto lensInspiration
I love wave photography...but the waves need to be more than 3m in height! I love the colours and patterns that you see on the waves. I particularly love seeing incoming waves hitting the rocks and creating the backwash which then hits another incoming wave..sometimes the backwash creates a fan -like sinuous wall of water that is amazing if you capture itEditing
Because the afternoon was reasonably dull,i used photoshop basic processing of levels, contrast and brighten the overall picture. This bought out the green -blue colours of the water. In my camera bag
My camera, 28-200mm and 70 -300mm lenses. This are my staple lenses.Feedback
Wave photography is amazing, but the waves can be unpredictable. So never turn your back on the surf.. Even on rock platforms, the water can have a very powerful current as it goes across the rock platform. Protect your camera and lenses and clean and dry them well when you have finished taking photos
