Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on our local beach during a family dog walk. Photography has always been an amateur hobby of mine, and the lighting playing across the water and sand was too beautiful to ignore that day!

Time

It was a chilly autumn evening, so thick coats and wellies were a must this evening! As we walked along the sun set alongside us, and with the low tide that evening it truly created a magical atmosphere, like something from a dream.

Lighting

Nature gives its own best side, and the lighting at this sunset definitely proved that true. The last rays of sunshine bounced off the water and nestled into the ripples of sand to create a stunning reflection that beautifully mirrored the sky above.

Equipment

This was shot on an iPhone, no flash or effects needed.

Inspiration

I have always loved the beach, particularly the way the light dances off the water and creates fascinating shadows and reflections. This was a clear, crisp autumn evening that made my fingers itch to get camera snappy.

Editing

No processing, this was a natural one-shot. Looking at the colours, reflections and detailing it would have lost something from the pure ness of the image to have processed it.

In my camera bag

I always have my phone on me, especially with the camera quality improving so much in recent years. We also have a Canon SLR that we take out almost everywhere, with lenses to suit any outing or environment.

Feedback

Be patient and enjoy where you are! Nature has always inspired me, but sometimes she makes you work for it… the more you take in from your environment, the more likely you are to get THE shot that you’re hoping for. Focus on the light in relation to the environment and look to quirky ways to capture it. Don’t be scared to get down into the damp sand for the perfect angle.
