Location
This photo was taken on the University of Texas at Dallas Campus. It was a really pretty day after some rain, but it was incredibly windy out haha - which just made it more fun honestly.Time
I believe this photo was taken around 4:00pm. This was the same year I had taken my first real photography class on campus and was learning so much more compared to just winging it and figuring it out as I went along. During the class, at the time, we were learning about the suns position in the sky versus how it can make your photo look.Lighting
This was a time when Golden Hour was kind of between 2:00pm-5:00pm and I really wanted to catch that lighting - especially for such a fun senior shoot.Equipment
This was shot on my Nikon D3200 with a 18 - 55 mm lens. No other equipment was used for this shoot. Just me and my camera.Inspiration
This phot in particular was completely candid. It was a planned shoot - very basic and simple. She brought her best friend, sister, and mom with her and in this moment they were making jokes and having a fun time. This really relaxed her and she was laughing so hard - so I just started clicking. Candid shots are my absolute favorite - they are so pure and genuinely show a moment in time.Editing
When I did this shoot I was still halfway in the learning process, so my editing skill were very basic. A little touch up on blemishes, perfecting the contrast with the shadows and highlights, messing with the exposure...nothing special in the post-processing of this photo. In my camera bag
My camera bag is filled with a lot of odd ball items. Of course my nikon - and it’s 18-55 mm lens. I always carry my filter lenses with me - there’s something fun about changing the way a photo appears before the editing process starts. There’s always some sort of confetti in there, chalk and sharpies are a necessity.Feedback
Honestly, I haven’t made this a profession yet and I have no clue if I will or if it’ll just stay a really important hobby to me, but one thing i’ve learned is don’t take it so serious in the moment. There’s time for seriousness in prep before the shoot and in the process afterwards. But during, you can always get the best photos of your clients if they are relaxed and feel comfortable with you and how you are. Be a prepared, professional, goofball and know that most of your clients are nervous or hates having their photos taken or has no idea what to do with their hands. It’s okay - as long as you have those answers before going in, it’ll all be perfect.
