Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken at a christening party just outside Durham, England. The little girl was taking her first steps to the cheers and admiration of all the guests their. Unfortunately I didn't have time to get the best position so had to be very candid, however I think that it adds to the image that it isn't perfect.

Time

It was around 1pm and beginning to get a little overcast so wanted to get in some natural light shots in before starting to use flash. This was taken at the borderline of needing a flash but I like a darker "moody" image.

Lighting

Again this was one of the last shots of the shoot using natural light. After this I used a single speedlight on a stand.

Equipment

On this shot I used a Canon 7d, with a 24-105 f4 lens, this is such a versatile lens even though it is f4.

Inspiration

I love to take images of people in natural cercumstances to try and capture the feeling of that particular moment.

Editing

Post production consisted of very minimal light room editing. Adjusting the tones slightly, adjusting gama and offset to give it a softer feel

In my camera bag

My trusty Canon 7d, 24-105mm f4, nifty fifty, 85mm sigma 1.4 art, a plethera of filters. Looking to move to a sony system so all may change soon.

Feedback

The only advice I would give would be to know your camera and know the limits of what natural light can achieve.
