Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in London at Kensington Station.

Time

It was about 10 am, I was traveling with a group, and while we were trying to find where we should go, I was looking around noticing all the other people doing the same.

Lighting

I wanted to capture the feeling of one person standing out in a crowd, I didn't want the background to have different lighting than the subject, but I still wanted enough contrast to guide my viewers' eyes to her.

Equipment

I used the Canon 77D and the Canon 24-105 f4

Inspiration

There were at least a thousand other people rushing around trying to find where they were going that day, but she stood so calmly. She looked as though she was deciding where she could go rather than how to get somewhere.

Editing

I only had to do some simple color correction the low light from inside the station created a yellow cast on the scene, and I did my best to remove that and restore the scene I remembered.

In my camera bag

I usually avoid carrying a bag; I feel it hinders my creativity. I set out with my camera, and whatever lens speaks to me that morning, then I force myself to adapt to capture rather than find the correct equipment.

Feedback

Stay in a crowded spot, and just people watch, before you know it you'll notice characters and stories beginning to emerge from the crowd, then you have to capture that character in a way that tells the story without your explanation.
