We left Winter Park and drove south the the base of a hike stretching above us. We hiked first in the lower forested side of the mountain, knowing that within half an hour it would be straight up through a bed of scree. And it was--tough to keep upright as we ascended on the thin slippery sheets of dark rock. After an hour we entered a grassy meadow--quite a relief. In the middle of the meadow was a tumble-down cabin with no roof. Curious, we entered through an opening mean to hold a door, but had none. I walked to the window opening looking west. The window framed a lovely view of the adjacent mountain. Perfectly capturing the remains of another smaller cabin. People had been here before and loved it enough to build a home. We loved it also, but rested a bit and started back down the mountain. Goodbye sweet home.
