Jan 31st - This mornings Supermoon - Bluemoon - Bloodmoon - Eclipse taken from the Grand Hyatt looking across Old Tampa Bay. The BLUE MOON happens when two Supermoons occur in the same month - a rarity, spawning the phrase ‘once in a blue moon’. The BLOOD MOON occurs when a LUNAR ECLIPSE happens – when the moon passes through the earth’s shadow, the moon often turns a reddish hue. In Florida we only saw a partial eclipse, but on the western coast they saw a glorious FULL ECLIPSE.
In addition, this was the final Supermoon of three in back-to-back months, called SUPERMOON TRIAD. The last time that I can find that this happened was the summer of 2014 (‪July 12‬-Aug10-Sept 9), but that was three in three months. Apparently three in two months is rare, but oddly enough I can’t find out when this last occurred. Does anyone know when that was?
