Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from Princes Bridge on St Kilda Road in Melbourne. Looking out west over the Yarra river with Flinders Street Station on the right, and Crown and all the restaurant on the left.

Time

This was taken early evening as part of a city night shoot.

Lighting

I was just testing my camera with the changing light conditions, to be ready for later on. I got a similar shot and decided to increase the timer to try and get the lights to bounce off the water more.

Equipment

This was set up on my tripod, which can be tricky in this location with the amount of people that walk past and the risk of it being bumped. I used my Nikon D5100 on my 55mm lens.

Inspiration

This was a test shot that came out as the best shot of the night.

Editing

No post processing as the colours were perfect from the original shot.

In my camera bag

I normally take my three lenses so that I am ready for any shot. My standard nikon 55mm, my Nikon 70-300mm, and my new 200-500mm lens.

Feedback

Try and get a low wind day and at high tide. That way you can get better reflections. Have a play with your settings to see what works best for you. Although as the sun goes down you will find you will be adjusting your settings a lot to compensate for the changes in light.
