Behind The Lens

Location

Everytime I make it to Kathmandu, I try to hit the Monkey Temple. It is usually always fun to see any changes and all the monkeys.

Time

My son and I made it to the Temple mid afternoon. Good light up top, but not so good on the way up the many stairs. It was a very busy day on this trip.

Lighting

Lighting not so much, but if you hit very early for the morning light, you can arrive before all the people. I had a very hard time taking any photos without "someone" in the photo. This is the reason my photo is so overcropped. I was happy with this photo, but unhappy with my crop. I could use Photoshop to erase people, but that would be taking this photo into another area.

Equipment

I used my only DSLR - Canon 5D MII, with my carry lens, 24-105 L series. My goto for sure.

Inspiration

I probably took 200 photos up there, as there was so much to see. Half of the monkeys, (there are two types) and the rest of the temple.

Editing

I did do post-processing for sure. It is something I really enjoy doing. I think now, the reason for my trips. So I can go home and edit for a couple of months. I mostly use LR Classic to tweak and bring to life. If I need to do any major cleaning or adjusting I use Photoshop CC. I sometimes use DxO Photolab 3.0 to work out really good RAW photos. I am guilty of using Topaz products, mostly to enlarge and denoise older photos.

In my camera bag

I only have my Canon 5D MII, with a Canon L 24-105, L 17-40, L 100-400, and my newer Sigma 50 Art 1.4. It depends on what kind of trip I am going on. If sea kayaking, I only carry my 5D MII with the L24-105. If on a road trip, I will have all of them, plus my tall tripod. I do own a lighter shorter tripod for my hiking trips. Which is when I would add my L100-400.

Feedback

Try to miss the crowds. Go early or late. If going late, bring your tripod.
