Location
I took this photo on a trip to England. I had a day out with friends and we visited Fountains Abbey in Ripon, North Yorkshire.Time
This image was taken early afternoon on a cloudy day.Lighting
It was a cloudy day so there were no distracting shadows other than those of the building itself which allowed the shapes and forms to show at their best.Equipment
I was using my Canon 7D Mark 11, f10 to get good even focus, ISO 200 due to dull lightingInspiration
The shapes and alignment of these arches was just perfect and showed the building in such a beautiful way I just had to wait until people exited my shot to get what I was after.Editing
A small amount of editing was done in Photoshop to bring out the depth but i was very fortunate to capture a pretty good image in camera. I shot this in colour but I like the black and white version as it has more interest and creates a more moody feel.In my camera bag
I generally carry my Canon 7D with my basic lens attached but also have my 50mm and zoom lens with me to cover more opportunities. My flash travels most places with me to be able extend my shooting options.Feedback
This kind of shot is all about finding the angle to shoot at to give the most pleasing image. The repeating arch shapes lined up so perfectly that I feel it would not have had the same impact any other way. Stepping back to include some foreground gives it depth and a feeling of 'realness' and belonging, adding to the story.
