Location
This photo was captured from a booth inside a pub on the other side of Westminster Bridge. I had been shooting photography all day with my English cousin who is also a photographer and we stopped here for a breather.Time
The time was around 4-5PM when the late afternoon sun was creating beautiful light and shadows.Lighting
All natural lighting was used coming through the windows on my right and across to Big Ben.Equipment
I used an older Olympus OMD Em-5 camera with an Olympus 12-50mm lens, f/7, 15 mm focal length. No flash.Inspiration
I had been capturing shots of London all day but had not been successful at getting one of Big Ben with the hordes of tourists in the way. I was lucky to have a seat by this window with this incredible view of the tower framed in the beautiful etched window and draped in the heavy red velvet curtains. A perfect shot and so unexpected!Editing
Because of the difference in exposures between the lightness outside and the dark interior of the room, I adjusted the highlights for the area around the tower and lightened the curtains to show up their designs. I always shoot in Raw and do my post editing in Lightroom. In my camera bag
Because I'm a travel photographer and major wanderer, I try to pack as much as I can without needing a camel. Not too successful at it as I like to carry what I'll need since I go away for long periods of time. Usually in my pack are my two Olympus OMD cameras: the OMD Em-5 which I have since converted to an infrared camera, and my OMD Em-1 Mark ii. I always carry my Olympus 40-150mm telephoto f/2.8 PRO, Olympus 7-14mm wide angle PRO f/2.8, and Olympus Zuiko 12-40mm lenses. I also have with me an Olympus FL-700WR lightweight travel flash if needed. I very seldom use a tripod as I'm on the go and Olympus cameras have such excellent anti-shake ability.Feedback
My advice would be to those out shooting while traveling is to always be prepared for the right moment. Have camera ready and keep your eye on what activity is around you, when the light is the best (as photography is all about light, right!), and look at the world around you. The creative eye through a lens can capture a moment forever. I have my camera always at my hip ready to pull up and shoot.
