While I do not have access to strobes, I have three Continuous Lights. Using one Light is very good for balance between Light and Shadow in a Portrait.

Location
I was in-between locations during this shoot. I created space in the middle of a living room to capture photographs.Time
Mid-afternoon. I had to be careful not to photograph to close to windows because the sunlight outside was very bright.Lighting
I wanted a gradual drop-off from light to shadow. Because I photograph myself, it can be tricky judging exactly where the light is coming from. It's all trial and error. Learning from experience. The ambient light coming into the room helps lighten the scene.Equipment
One studio light, a black backdrop, the Canon 5D Mark II, and a tripod. I'm not comfortable with using a flash.Inspiration
I simply needed a new Profile photograph and wanted to try a photo with a bit of finesse.Editing
Editing was fairly simple in Adobe Camera Raw. The photograph was converted to black and white. The White and Blacks were adjusted to add a bit of Contrast to the scene. In my camera bag
Canon 5D Mark II with 24-105mm lens. Tripod. Studio lights. Filters. Gels.Feedback
