These are Roosevelt Elks which are mostly west of the Cascade Range from California up through Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska. These females (cows) who are in gestation have a period of 8 to 9 months before calves are born (weighing 30 to 40 lbs) late spring to early summer. Bull Elk gather together once the rutting season ends to fend of predators and regrow their antlers.
