I'm from Columbus, Ohio and I actually took this photo right at home in my living room.Time
To minimize glass glares and too much lighting I usually try and photograph my animals later in the day or towards nighttime.Lighting
Patrick is so much fun to shoot, so I turned on a light behind him and It really helped showcase all of the colors in his habitat and highlight his natural coloring as well.Equipment
I am not in any way a professional. I really support hobbies on a budget, so I try to use only what I have. For this picture I actually used my Iphone8 camera while I was trying to find a good position sitting in my sons mini Ninja Turtle chair.Inspiration
I love having exotic animals, and Patrick the Axolotl is no exception. Axolotls are critically endangered and I used this picture for a small awareness post. All of my animals whether they are in a fish tank, or dry habitat are all unique in some way. I love catching their personalities and and showing others my awesome menagerie.Editing
No, I try not to edit my photos to often. I hate when they look over processed or not quite natural. The most I will ever do is maybe add a snazzy filter. In my camera bag
Photography has always been a great hobby and creative outlet for me, I would love to have an awesome bag full of the latest and greatest with a couple of tricks added in, but I wholly support photography on a budget. When I decide to use my real camera, I have a Nikon L820. Its small and compact, the price is consumer friendly, and it still takes amazing photos and videos! If I forget the camera, or I take a pic on the fly, I usually just have my phone. You would be amazed at the quality of picture some phones can take.Feedback
Pets in general are unique and fun to play with... get creative when shooting them. A little bribe of the food variety never hurt either. You make have to take 100 shots just to get that 1 perfect one, and it may get frustrating because animals have a brain of their own, but in the end it's worth it. You get an awesome shot, you learn some patience and some tricks, and you have just spent some quality time with your pet. Enjoy it and don't stress.
