One of my favorite impressionist artist by whom I was inspired and fascinated since the high school was Claude Monet. I love the movement of his paintings, the colors and the spirit. It's so fresh and calm, I just want to dip into it and live in his creation. In May, 2017 I had a chance to visit his gardens in Giverny, France. His gardens are literally his paintings. He drew what he saw in his environment. What a beautiful life he had. The picture of the tulips are from his garden which grow just beside his window.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in 2017 in April at Claude Monet's house in Giverny. Claude Monet is my old-time favorite impressionist artist. I was fascinated by his work since I was 14 years old.

Time

This picture was taken closer to the evening, around 16-17h. There were lots people that day visiting the Monet's garden in Giverny, so I needed to wait when there were less of them so I could shoot this magnificent scenery.

Lighting

The lighting wasn't really good that day, it was pretty cloudy. However, I love the result, the picture itself turned out a bit impresionistic. That day I took this picture in a low aperture (f/13) and low ISO (100). It was really important for me to maintain all details in the picture.

Equipment

This was photographed in Nikon d3300 18-105mm F 3.5 - 5.6 G VR. I didn't use any other equipment.

Inspiration

I was fascinated by Claude Monet since the age of 14. I loved his entire work. Everytime when I was visiting the Musée D'Orsey in Paris or Albertina Muséum in Vienna, first thing on my list was to see Claude Monet. I could stare at his paintings for hours. He is a real masterful painter of light and atmosphere at any time of the day or any season of the year. I was so impressed to know that most of his paintings were created at his home in Giverny. So, I decided that I must visit that place which inspired him so much. It wasn't just an old french house with some flowers and gardens. It was an absolute masterpiece. I was walking in his gardens and seeing his paintings everywhere: "Water Lilies and the Japanese bridge", "The rose arches", "The Studio Boat". I thought "Wow, it's amazing that you need so little to be inspired. You don't need to travel all around the world to create something amazing if you already have something what you truly love and it inspires you everyday". Claude Monet put lots of love, care, ideas and happiness where he lived. He created his own heaven on earth. As he is my favorite artist, I wanted to re-capture his paintings through my lense, but in my own way. I, like Monet, also love colors and reflections of the nature. So, this is my type of Monet photo rendering. I feel so lucky that I had a chance to visit this place.

Editing

I did some photo editings with Lightroom but not much. I prefer to have more less natural results of my work.

In my camera bag

If I shoot during the day time, normally, I take just my camera, Nikon D 750, and my lense 28-70mm. If I shoot in the evening I might take a tripod and an additional flash.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to experement with the your camera regime. Be inspired by other artists, but most important, don't lose your own style. Always include a detail of you into the picture.
