It was a king low tide and my family and I were exploring the tide pools. My wife called to me frantically and when I ran over the shadow of my head startled this creature which she had seen creeping out of a cave in a small pool. I didn't think I would get a photo of it as the octopus went back into hiding. I sat next to the pool quietly and patiently and waited and after a long time the curious creature crept back out of its hiding spot to explore the small pool that it was in. I had one quick opportunity to photograph it clearly when it got close enough to the surface. I had my macro lens on so I could not get the whole creature in the frame. Its body was the size of an orange but it had very long tentacles. This was my first time seeing an octopus in a tide pool and a profound moment. The creature moved with such grace and intelligence I was awestruck.
