Behind The Lens

Location

Leschenault Estuary is located in Bunbury Western Australia which is 200km South of Perth.

Time

This is a beautiful location for sunrise or sunsets and if the clouds are in a great formation then its a photographers delight. This photo was taken just after sunset as the colours kept changing and the halo cloud created the perfect backdrop for the tree.

Lighting

I wanted a beautiful silhouette of this tree and the colours forming with the sunset was going to give me exactly what i was hoping for, if not better.

Equipment

My trusty Canon 700d mounted on a tripod using canon 10-18mm lens with a hoya filter to allow slow shutter speed

Inspiration

I have always loved this tree for years and i knew one day it may not be there. Every opportunity i drove to this location to take various sunrise and sunset photos.

Editing

I used Lightroom desktop version to do minor post editing but as the natural colours were so vivid very little was required making the photo more appealing

In my camera bag

My husband always asks when we go driving if i need to take everything. The answer is always yes. I never want to miss a photo opportunity so i make sure both my canon 700d and canon 80d are ready, all my lens (4 in total) and any filters, speed light and of course the tripod are with me.

Feedback

If you are hoping to achieve a great natural photo, i watch the clouds during the late afternoon to see if the weather conditions will be ideal for a great colour explosion. Patience is imperative and setting up an hour beforehand is sometimes what is required. Even if the colours dont appear make the most of the trip and take lots of photos, never let the time go unwasted.
