I explored Iceland as a solo female traveller with no set itinerary. Little did I know, a key decision I made early on in the trip to explore the Westfjords instead of taking the ring road allowed me to visit this magical spot. Had I not explored the Westfjords, I would have encountered a road closure stopping my just shy of reaching this destination as I approached from the East. Luckily though, thanks to some spontaneous decision making early on, it allowed me to make it as far as the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.

I awoke early in the morning and had the lagoon to myself. I enjoyed freshly made coffee and the serenity and spookiness of the foggy peaceful lagoon.
