Location
This photo was taking at a park in Caledon,Ontario. We found some untouched snow by some pine trees. I love to use nature in my shots! Also I love to take portraits.Time
I took this photo around 12-2pm. I was inspired from all the fresh snow that fell the night before. So i called up friend, she got her friend to model for me and we started to take photos. This photo was taking in the month of December, I fail to recall the exact date.Lighting
The lighting was created from all natural light. The lighting was diffused due to the overcast that day, so we had some soft lighting.Equipment
This image was shot with a Nikon D610, using a 50mm lens. No extra equipment was used. How ever I did have one of my friends throw snow in the air to help create snow falling behind her.Inspiration
I was inspired from all the snow falling. It reminded me of the days I would go outside as a kid during winter season. I would play around in the snow, throw snowballs, play with the snow in my hands. So I wanted recapture that feel though this image.Editing
My portrait images I do a little FS (Frequency Separation) on the skin, I tend to adjust image a little more because I do capture my images a little under exposed. I fine it helps with my post-processing work. I did remove some snow off her glasses because there were a few distracting spots. I did add a little more snow by taking a brush, to replicate snow. Made the snow a bit large in size, added motion blur for movement and lowered the opacity to make it barely noticeable. In my camera bag
So before I head outside to take any photo I make sure I have my Nikon D610. Its my only body of camera, I don't have many. I bring my 50mm lens because that's my go to camera. I love the f/1.8 because of the blur. I also bring my 24-85mm lens in case I need a wider. It's not much but it does the job for me. I bring a glass prism with me, just to add some nice surreal effects. I don't always use it but its with me in case. I bring an extra battery, light meter and my Nikon speed-light 910.Feedback
I live in Toronto. Its hard to not shoot in a location that everyone has already used so many times for their portrait images. I tend to plan ahead and have multiple ideas for shoots that I just store in a book, or look at one of the mood boards I had created.Location scouting is important. I look online and I drive to the location to see what its like during the time of day I want to take these images. creating a story for your portrait work will bring life to your images.
