Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in Anaheim, California, on the way to Disney Land. We (my dad and I) were looking for a place to get tix to Disneyland, that and explore Anaheim at night.

Time

I shot this in November, around 7:13PM. Loved the Christmas feels there, it was a cold night too.

Lighting

Loved the Warm Christmas lights around Anaheim streets and the cars passing with their bright head lights on,Its one of the things that helped me naturally light up the surrounding in lowlight.

Equipment

I used my Nokia Lumia 830 for this picture, and the other little green pillar next to the one in the picture for support as it was a 3sec long exposure shot. Nothing else.

Inspiration

The Christmas vibes around and worm lights, I imagined how Santa would be seen if he was to speed thru the streets, so the red and the light of the bus there and the Xmas trees around sparked the idea of the composition. Christmas is magical, even more when near Disney Land.

Editing

I did but I wanted to keep this as natural as possible so i didn't do much. Just a little decrease in brightness and exposure to add more depth and darks, with a bit increase in saturation and contrast to bring out the colors of the lights more. Just the basic minimal stuff.

In my camera bag

I usually use my Nokia Lumia 830 ,so for it, my pockets are like my camera bag. When carrying my phone i keep a phone tripod holder as it makes it easier to grip the phone and I can leave it standing on the surface for pics and time laps incase, I also sometimes keep a wide angle lens for landscapes and a macro lens for when I see a cool bug or an ant finding its way thru its giant maze. Not too long ago I got the Sony A6000, New camera YAAAY , it too has a small carry bag, it holds the A6000s E-Mount 16-50mm lens and 55-210 Telephoto lens and i also load the bag with microfiber cloths and sometimes a power bank. They say the camera you can take along with you to most places without problems is the camera you'd use more, and that's true, same goes for the bag you keep your equipment in.

Feedback

1)Be patient with the shots, in long exposure shots like these the outcomes can vary, rushing it instead of understanding what's happening in the scene can waste time and camera battery, so see what thing in setting gives or adds what effect to the image and start adjusting from there. Also need to be patient enough for the composition to happen, like a lighting pic, it takes 100s of shots to get couple good shots out of it, so if u give up too soon you might miss a gr8 frame. 2) Know when to stop and change/ adjust the composition. Sometimes we take the "Oh its a digital pic, I can delete and take more" for granted that in a way it becomes a little greedy. I tell my self "Art is a Mistake that is about to Happen" and move on, if I don't get the pictures as pictured in mind, then i give them time, because then over time those frames don't look as bad as it was seen before. 3) Have a clean lens to reduce unwanted lens flares.
