Behind The Lens

Location

This is a great example of the freedom we have enjoyed in the past: what makes this special is the abandoned rustic barn. Emilee is a family member who has been my muse on my photographic journey. This wonderful barn still stands in a far corner of our Idaho town.

Time

Afternoon.

Lighting

It was a mostly cloudy day, lighting was a breeze.

Equipment

Nikon D80, 200mm lens, and wherever my eyes lead me. I specialize in using minimal equipment and editing.

Inspiration

The old red barn had been tantalizing us for a sweet, western-style shoot just for fun.

Editing

I think I had to lighten it a bit, which is tricky work since Emilee has a beautiful darker tone to her skin. So other than lighting and a teeny bit of cropping, I really prefer to edit virtually nothing.

In my camera bag

My camera, 2 lenses, extra batteries, lens cloths, a light diffuser, and an Ollo clip.

Feedback

The angle on this photo made the result special. Make sure your subject is comfortable with you. I get the best results when my subject can be themselves and not always look directly at the lens.
