Location
This photo was taken at the Lago di Braies, Dolomites, Italy, everyone on Instagram probably knows it by now. The autumn colored trees give a fresh look of the scenery.Time
I remember waking up really early because we had a long drive ahead of us (approximately 2 hours) to catch the sunrise. I drove down there and my girlfriend was sleeping next to me. While we got closer she started to wake up with awesome landscapes filled with ground mist. The lake itself was crystal clear which gave an immediate feeling of serenity.Lighting
Behind the mountains, the sun started to slowly rise to shed light on one half of the landscape.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon 80D, Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, and a compact traveler tripod.Inspiration
Lago di Braies is probably one of the most photographed lakes found on Instagram. As such, I had seen many great examples. Still being there yourself, capturing the beauty of it is a great experience, totally worth it.Editing
The biggest challenge for me was capturing as much detail in the shadows and highlights as possible as I didn't have a filter set back then. Therefore I took 3 bracketed shots which I merged in Lightroom to 32-bit HDR. Moreover, I bumped up the sunlit trees. In my camera bag
Most of the time I pretty much pack everything because I like the variety. So first of all my Canon 80d, which is a great body if your budget does not fit a 6D mark II. For landscape photography, I pack the 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 and, nowadays, combined with some Breakthrough Photography filters. My all-round lens the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4, which is for crop camera's a great lens to have. The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, a really fast lens, sharp and nice bokeh, great for telephotos of mountain peaks. And the lens almost every Canon user has, the 50mm f/1.8. Furthermore, for a landscape photographer, a tripod is a must.Feedback
Definitely, plan a visit to the Dolomites in Italy, it is a great area with lots of beautiful lakes and mountains.
