Behind The Lens

Location

Taken at home, in my garden, we have lots of plants and mini scenery to glance at. I don't have a big garden, but I try and make the most of it with the small plants and insects which are there. I'm thankful and I use what I have around me, and even when you have a small garden, you can make and tell a much meaningful story.

Time

This is one of my favourite close up photos. This photo was captured during an afternoon when it had stopped raining, it had also rained the day before I remember.

Lighting

Using a close-up/macro technique on plants, I thought this was a great opportunity to capture this shot. The lighting is all natural, and focuses on the main subject which is the water droplets that are on the plant.

Equipment

This photo was shot on a Canon EOS 1200D, using a 18-55mm f/5.6 lens. Nothing else was used.

Inspiration

I am interested in landscapes and architecture in particular, so choosing nature with this shot, I decided to look more on the features and textures of plants. Then thinking deeper into it, I thought it would be a bonus to see plants up close in their natural beauty. Ever since, I have been fascinated and still continue to capture close up shots of unseen nature.

Editing

I simply used a brightness and contrast mask on my raw capture, nothing else was added.

In my camera bag

The first camera I usually pack is my Canon EOS 1200D with my added 18-55mm lens. Then I usually carry an extra lens, which is a 70-300mm for long distant shots. I have different filters and other macro lenses that I use to add on for experimentation. As a second camera, I use my digital compact Nikon COOLPIX P500. This camera is great for high quality zooming and long distant shots without having to change lenses.

Feedback

I say research and patience are the key points here. If you like and enjoy something in particular, I say do your research on what you would like to capture and why. Having a creative mindset before the capture helps, as it gives you some kind of structure. You can go out with a camera and capture something unsuspected and surprising in that moment however, if you are wanting to capture an object in detail whether if its far away or close up, you need to sit and wait for the right moment in time to capture that one shot.
