Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken under a pier in Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne, Australia and it is a holiday desination beachside named Dromana.

Time

This was taken very early in the mornng and the sun rises on the right hand side so at the point the photo was taken there is no effect in the sky and i was able to focus on the action of the waves.

Lighting

The light was soft as the sun had hardly risen

Equipment

Shot with an Olympus OMD mark 10 mark 2, kit wide angled lends. A nd filter 2 stops just to soften the light and I think the shot was about.5 of a sec as i was doing a lot of experimenting with time lapses and how it effected the water. I also used a tripod and I had that pretty low to intensify the waves as i wanted them to stand out againt the pier

Inspiration

A place I love and the changing conditions of the light and the ever changing sea

Editing

i used to lightroom and photoshop but nothing was added just a slight amount with shadows which i see give a photo that magic that it jumps at you

In my camera bag

a telephoto lens. a wide angled lens and a prime lens. I mainly use the wide angled lens between f7 and f11 as i find the camera excels between these point I have a few nd filters 2 4 6 and 8 but i find the 8 induces too much colour that i do not like. Most photos I shoot are panos because i think a single shot photo often does not catch the whole magic of the subject. I approach my shooting like a photographer attemting to capture shadows and highlights

Feedback

do not be scared to experiment and go outside the square because if you never failed you never learned anything
