Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the vicinity of the town of Varna, Bulgaria, from a lifeguard stand on the beach.

Time

This was taken around 6 o'clock a.m. I was sitting on the lifeguard stand, supporting the camera on my knee and shooting at a burst speed of approx 6p/sec, the buffer was just 9 pictures Raw format.

Lighting

In my mind, this picture was supposed to be taken in direct contre-jour i.e. taken directly against the rising sun. I have followed this vision and did not shut in a different direction avoiding destruction from the main idea.

Equipment

This was shot with Nikon D7000, lens Tamron DiII 16-300mm F/3.5 - 6.3, no tripod used

Inspiration

This picture was inspired by a childhood memory of sunset with a bird. I can not recall whether this was a painting or an old fashion wall hanging carpet, probably the latest. I have decided to recreate this image I had in my memory only. This is the only picture that covers 100% of the image I remember. The total number of pictures taken in burst was about 3000, in three consecutive years visiting Varna and going to the beach at 5:30.

Editing

There is no significant post-processing in this picture, just minimal corrections of the horizon, contrast, brightness.

In my camera bag

Camera Nikon D7000, fresh batteries to maintain burst speed 6-7 p/sec. lens Tamron Di II 16 - 300mm. F/3.5 6.3
