Gorgeous bird and magnificent shot! I love the detailed pattern of its wings.

I looked through your gallery and was in awe of your eye and skill behind a lens! So many shots (especially this one) qualify as portraiture that I'm hoping to be as good as you with my camera someday.

Location
I took this photo while on a photographic wildlife tour in Scotland Uk. It was my first camera, my first adventure. I was nervous, anxious and extremely excited! Although this was a captive Golden Eagle, it still posed problems by taking off whenever we all tried to photograph it.Time
I'm not exactly sure what time of day it would have been as we were out all day photographing different subjects.Lighting
I wanted THE best shot I could of my favourite bird. I remembered moving around with others, all of us trying to get that perfect shot. The light was just right and our guides placed us in the perfect spot at the right time.Equipment
I used a Nikon D70. I think I only had a 300mm lens. As I said I was only starting out in photography.Inspiration
I absolutely love all wildlife. My favourite birds are the Golden Eagle and the Sea Eagle. So I needed little prompting when I heard we were getting to try photograph the Golden Eagle. Listen to others for advice, on lighting, settings and if you should shoot high or low.Editing
I think I made some changes to the sharpening and a little adjustment to the lght.In my camera bag
I have expanded my camera equipment now. I have a Nikon D7000 DSLR. I used a variety of lenses from a Sigma 20-40mm. I have Kenko Extension tubes, 20mm, 12mm and 36mm. A Tamron X2 Tele-Converter. A Nikon 70-300mm lens. A Sigma 150-500mm and a Tamron 90mm macro lens. I've just bought 4 Cokin filters I have yet to try them out.Feedback
Patience! Even with captive birds it can be very exciting but if the bird is not sitting, you simply have to sit and wait, it is always on the bird's terms, not yours. Even a photographic tour can have all sorts of problems, Patience and practice! Even if you don't think you have a good shot, wait, don't delete any photos until you get home and put them onto your computer or device. I found several photos of this same bird that didn't look good in my camera's viewfinder that I did delete, I regret this. My motto now is don't delete until I get home.
