Situated north of Lake Myvatn, Námaskarð is filled with sulphurous mud springs (solfataras) and steam springs (fumaroles). Black rivers and bubbling pools of sulfuric mud cut through the landscape which is absolutely void of any vegetation and smells like rotting eggs because of all the sulphur bleeding from the earth.
