Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in our back yard on the patio this past summer. Living in Louisiana we have an abundance of critters that visit in the summer time.

Time

The photograph was taken mid-morning, as we have shade cloth over the patio it made for nice lighting and no need for a flash.

Lighting

Being this photo was shot on my patio which has a shade cloth cover, it provided wonderful light with no harsh shadows.

Equipment

Photo was taken with a Canon 7D, 100mm macro lens at f/7.1, ISO 100 and 1/5 second from a tripod. No flash and pattern metered.

Inspiration

I enjoy taken photos of nature, as for inspiration it can be anything I find in nature from grass to animals. On this particular morning my wife and I were having coffee on the patio when I heard this little frog croaking from our coleus that is when I got my camera and set it up and waited for the shot I wanted.

Editing

I try to keep post processing to just what is needed, for this photo all post processing work was done in Adobe Light Room Classic CC and consisted of white balance adjustments, highlight and shadow adjustments and color balance adjustments.

In my camera bag

My grab and go bag that I use most has my Canon 7D, Canon 100 to 400mm lens, Canon 100mm macro lens, Canon 60mm prim and Tokina 11-16mm wide angle. I have a wide range of lens for my wife and I to use as we both shot Canon cameras but the above list is what I find I use the most.

Feedback

Here in Louisiana it is patience and understanding what it is you want to photograph be it in your own backyard, in the field or on the water. Your subject and conditions will dictate how you go about getting the photo you want along with a large dose of patience. For this particular photo it was a quite morning having coffee with my wife that lead to the chance encounter with this little green tree frog, from there it was patience, knowing how I wanted the shot to turn out and understanding to some degree the subject matter. Being this photo was shot on my patio which has a shade cloth cover, it provided wonderful light with no harsh shadows.
