Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in what used to be my studio. I didn´t have the proper lights that a Photographer should have in the studio and didn't have any money either so I bought two sets of the kind of lights that painters use to paint houses at night and started this project.

Time

Two in the morning, the room was pitch black and then I would turn those lights on and direct them straight to my face

Lighting

They were so hoy I had to decide where to put them and move around them.

Equipment

Canon Eos 5D, canon lens 24-70mm, 2.8, mamfrotto tripod

Inspiration

My inspiration came from me experimenting, I really wanted to take self-portraits at that time and I was keen on experimenting with light and movement. Probably inspired by Maplethorp´s nudes.

Editing

Not really, just opening the Raw files in Camera Raw from photoshop and adjusting the white balance.

In my camera bag

I normally have two camera bodies, One is the canon eos 5D Mark IV and the other is the canon eos 50D( this last camera is an old back up that I have just in case the other one doesn´t work. Then I normally take my Canon lens 24-70mm, 2.8, and my 70-200mm,2.8. a couple of flashes, cards batteries and sometimes a macro lens and if I can my 50mm foxed 1.4.

Feedback

My advice is to have much patience because every picture is different when your shutter speed is very low so you have to experiment and see how the light affects the movement until you get what you want
