Traditionally, when I spent xmas day with my grandparents as a child (in hot country Victoria, Australia), we used to open our presents from Santa in the morning, have a huge family cooked lunch, then open all our family presents. By the time that was all over and done with, and the women had cleaned up (Grandparents Era remember) then it was about 3pm on a hot blustery xmas afternoon, and we still needed to keep the celebrations going, so we would go in about 5-6 cars to Kow Swamp for a swim to cool off. My grandparents died 25 years ago, but last year my parents, myself, and my children visited my Aunty and Uncle nearby, and other relations came, and we spent our afternoon at Kow Swamp after following our traditional family ways
