Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo at a conservation area near Knob Noster, MO. My family and I were out for an evening hike. When we got back to the truck the sun was setting so I took this along with some others.Time
This was in the evening at sunset. I believe that time of year the sun was setting around 7 or so. I don’t remember exactly though.Lighting
As far as lighting goes I really just enjoyed the orange in part of the sky and the deeper blues and purples the setting sun made in the clouds. The reflections of that in the water tied it all together.Equipment
I shoot a Canon 60D. This photo was taken with this body and an 18-55mm kit lens and a tripod.Inspiration
Really just the colors and the reflections in the water. The small little island in the right third of the image was a nice addition to the composition as well.Editing
My process consists of importing images to Lightroom. There I do a basic run of the adjustments (exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, contrast, etc). I do usually add a little vibrance and sharpness. Very little clarity adjustment. I usually then put the image into photo shop to make any saturation or brightness adjustments. I like this process because it allows me to really bring an image to life from its RAW version without it looking unnatural. In my camera bag
My bag consists of my Canon 60D body, a fixed focal 50mm, an 18-55mm kit lens, a 75-300mm telephoto, a polarizer and 10 stop ND filter. I also carry a lightweight manfrotto tripod and a remote to use for long exposures.Feedback
One of the best things I’ve learned from being an amateur photographer in Knob Noster, Missouri is that nothing is better for improvement than time behind the lens out in whatever you like to shoot. This area of Missouri where I lived was not full of vast mountains or beautiful beaches. Train your eye to find nice light and see what photos you can make.
