Behind The Lens

Location

So I live about two minutes walk to the beach so you can say this photo was taken literally in my backyard.

Time

This is one of my favourite photos as it's of my brother in law proposing to her long time girlfriend of 10yrs! So you could say it was a long time coming. We had plan this day for more than a week, agreeing on a sunset proposal. Mind you this was in summer so would have been around 8-8:30pm.

Lighting

I wanted to get that natural golden evening light in this shoot so we waited till the sun was just starting to go down before luring her out to the beach.

Equipment

With this shoot I used a Canon EFS 75-200m zoom Lens with a Canon EOD 700D body, allowing me to stay hidden out of sight but still able to capture the moment

Inspiration

I have always wanted to secretly shoot an engagement and I was over the moon to have had this opportunity.

Editing

I did do a bit of post processing with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to tweak the shadows down a bit to give it that silhouette look.

In my camera bag

I am a self taught, budding photographer so I use what I have and just try and make the most of it. I carry my Canon 700D and the 75-200m lens a lot with me, it's really handy when it comes to capturing the details in things I'm shooting.

Feedback

I would say planning is essential. If you live in the area that you're planning the shoot, look around to find the spots and find different angles you could shoot from to give people a new perspective. Also study the weather to see what day and time of day would be best to shoot. Happy shooting !
