Location
This picture was shot at Rue des Thermopyles, in the south part of Paris. This little lovely street is well known for its quietness and its countryside feeling. No car is aloud. The spot is great for a shooting session but permission must be requested from the Committee of the ResidentsTime
Everything was planned on a Sunday cold morning of November.Weather forecast announced a beautiful shinny Sunday. A perfect time to go for a walk. So we start at 8 o'clock in the morning. The make-up artist and the hair stylist worked together to make Lea splendid. Then the stylist came to bring her dress. Our model was ready to dance in the street. Except it was pouring. We were about to cancel the shooting but Lea started to dance under the rain. Then I followed and took the shotLighting
As the weather forecast said it would be a shinny day, I just took my camera and just one lens. I let my flash at home. Unfortunately, there was no sun. I was confronted by a grey sky. So my source of light came from the wall of the houses and the reverberation of the wet pavement.Equipment
Nikon D850 Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.4 Anti UV filterInspiration
I wanted to show people how I see the world. I suffer of glaucoma and I am achromate. It means that I am blind colour and I see like a spot in front of me. So everything I see is dark with a great contrast. I usually see in magazines or postal cards very clean pictures of dancers in Paris. I just wanted to show the opposite. Something gloomy but lively in the same time.Editing
I worked on Lightroom. I just reduce the highlight and the white to create a disturbing side in the picture. I then cleared the center of the image to try to get closer to my central visionIn my camera bag
I like controversy. I like to use with my digital camera old M42 lenses but I also like to use few "digital" lenses like my 85mm, 50mm f/1.4, 14-24mm and a cobra flash. I also like to take some filters and reflectors. A little camera is sometimes added. Yes, it is heavy!Feedback
I don't know if I would encourage people to make such a picture. The light and the post-production is quite weird. But it can be a good exercise to try to understand how people like me see daily. I would recommend to not set the camera in black and white. The image would be too flat.
