I took this on the remote Washington Island just north of Door County, WI. It's only reachable by boat, but you can rent bikes or bring your car on the ferry to the island.Time

There was a nice filtered light with the sun coming through small breaks in the clouds which made it easy to find a side of the church with well balanced light and that would make it pop from the much brighter sky and backdrop of trees.Equipment

I thought that this church had an almost eerie look to it, especially with it's fairly isolated setting in the middle of a sparsely populated island, yet at the same time it had a quiet beauty. I wanted to capture that kind of curious sensation with this shot.Editing

When I travel, I typically just keep my a6000 with me along with a nice travel zoom lens. I always carry and extra battery and memory card, because you just never know! Sometimes, if I'm packing heavy I'll bring my Sigma 30mm with as well. I'm a backpacker though and rarely have the ability to travel with a ton of gear. I leave most of my other lenses and off body flashes at home.Feedback
Washington Island provides unique photographic opportunities during any season, with the scene dramatically changing by the month. For this shot, the most difficult part was just being patient and waiting for the few other tourists to get out of the way so I could get the composition that I wanted. Another item that ran through my head was how much sky and background I wanted to include. I could have zoomed a bit to provide more detail on the church itself, but I liked the wider approach which allows the viewer to see more of the setting which adds drama to the unique structure.
