I came upon this magnificent creature while urban hiking, across the Potomac over in suburban Arlington. At first I thought it was a statue. the lighting was perfect. It really does not get better than this in terms of poses, opportunity, scenery and lighting.

Location
This was taken on a walk from Georgetown to Arlington, across the Potomac river. There is a great deal of urban forest in the DC region and deer, amongst other wildlife, are proliferate.Time
This was shot close to noon time.Lighting
the lighting, as is always the case in the fall, was perfect, with the abundant tree canopy filtering it somewhat and highlighting the tawny coat of the deer.Equipment
I use whatever is on hand and this day I was carrying my NIKON D7100 with the 18-145 lens on it. No need for other accountrementInspiration
Nothing. I shoot whatever grabs my attention and in this case the urban deer herd. This one was so close to me that we looked at each other for at least a minute as I slowly inched the camera up to my face. I got off two snaps, that was it.Editing
I use the minimal amount of post processing....I do not believe in misrepresenting what I saw with lightbox bells and whistles, I believe in photographic integrity. But I will pop out contrast to a degree, maybe do bits of cropping, and some sharpening and minor color adjustment. In my camera bag
I rarely carry a bag these days....I prefer to have my gear around my neck or in my pocketFeedback
be patient, enjoy the moment, observe the light
