Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken at Harbour Front,Downtown, Toronto in November, 2017 during one of the casual evening walk of Autumn.

Time

I took this picture at around 4 PM or little later when the Sun was heading to bid goodbye for the day. The day was sunny and there were few low clouds over the lake. This place is port for Pirate Boats, Private Boats and Small Cruise ships and is always busy in Summer until Autumn. I was heading back to my home from Lakeshore and stopped at harbour front to take casual shot of this beautiful Pirate Boat anchored at the Harbour.

Lighting

I made this casual shot worth capturing by selecting the right frame to showcase a rough and stormy voyage. I utilized the effect of silhouette by getting this shot at the perfect timing of Sun. Th clouds made it easy to depict the story I wanted to portray

Equipment

This was shot with iPhone 7 without any tripod. The major attributes I focused on during this photo is the angle, frame, sun and clouds to give that mysterious look of a stormy rough voyage

Inspiration

It was exceptionally Sunny and less cold for a November evening on that day. I wanted to capture the moment as memory for one Sunny Autumn Evening so I took this picture. I can’t resist to take my camera/phone out seeing even little possibility of capturing silhouettes. I tried various frames at that place and this one was my most favourite.

Editing

Photographs are one of the best ways to tell some story without the words. I also try to do so. This was a casual phone shot. Since it was one perfect frame so I did post processing to portray like a Rough Stormy Voyage with hopes through Shining Sun. I played with background colours for better silhouette. Played with clouds to show the roughness and aggression and adjusted frame to eliminate the Ferry but focused only on the strings of this Pirate Boat.

In my camera bag

In my Nikon kit, I normally carry tripod, lens (prime, macro and for landscape). But I never miss any chance to use my Phone for most perfect pictures. Recently I am loving my iPhone 11 Pro with an add on of macro lens. Phone is perfect on any chilly day when I only want to carry weight of Jacket.

Feedback

Ontario is land of Lakes but ofcourse weather is always a challenge to get the effects of Sun. Never miss any chance to head out if its sunny to get silhouettes. Toronto Island, Ontario Place, Harbour Front, Sugar beach are few among many places in Downtown Toronto where you can walk around and get beautiful shots of Pirate Boats. You can also get onboard of these pirate boats cruises. Check under Toronto Attractions for Pirate Life.
