The stitchbird or hihi (Notiomystis cincta) is a rare honeyeater-like bird endemic to the North Island and adjacent offshore islands of New Zealand. Almost extinct, conservation efforts have lead to repopulation of this unique bird to several island sanctuaries in New Zealand. Unlike the photo of the female, this photo was taken in Zealandia, another nature preserve in Wellington, NZ
