when Cancer took my father in 12 Days on April 3, 2014 I told my dad I would go to his hometown Espanola, NM. It took two years but I did.
My father’s grave at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Aspen Hill, Md.
“My mother, my brothers and my sisters each personally know and benefitted from my father’s compassion and kindness. Regardless how big or small the failing or shortcoming -- a skinned knee, a lost soccer game, flunking an exam, falling ill, or having a marriage fall apart -- Dad always responded with compassion and kindness. He picked us up, dusted us off, pointed us in the right direction, noted that this too shall pass, and reminded us that we were strong enough not only to persevere, but to thrive. It was basically the Guachupanguero way of saying, “Keep calm and carry on.”
