Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in New Caledonia, in a place called Voh, on a ULM flight with no window

Time

It was taken early afternoon around 3pm

Lighting

100% mid afternoon natural light

Equipment

Nikon D800, with a Nikon 58mm f1.4

Inspiration

The place in incredible, there is nothing about New Caledonia that is not inspiring. Plus I don't know how many places on earth have a natural heart that you can see from the sky

Editing

Yes, minimal though, fixed the white balance to daylight and added a bit of contrast and clarity

In my camera bag

Nikon D800, Nikon 14-24mm f2.4, Nikon 58mm f1.4, Nikon 105mm macro, Nikon 50mm f1.8, tripod, remote shutter trigger, extra batteries, extra memory cards

Feedback

The fact that I didn't have a window from the sky makes it a lot easier to capture something amazing. Use hi shutter speeds as you are flying quite fast, you need good natural light, you need hi speeds and as much aperture as you can get. Be prepared to shoot lots of frames, you are moving so you need to be fast. Be inspired by the place, aerial shots are magnificent, they show you a perspective that is not the one we are used to, so try and capture what that perspective gives you. Show what you are not able to see from bellow.
