Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a Thoroughbred horse farm in central Kentucky.

Time

It was taken just a bit after first daybreak.

Lighting

It had been a week of storms & so, with heavy clouds, the daylight was somewhat more subdued than usual.

Equipment

Honestly? It was the camera on my mobile. At that time, that was a Samsung Galaxy 7 Active. As far as specifics go, the camera was a SAMSUNG-SM-G891A. The Aperature was f/1 7; ISO: 200 & Exposure: 1/10. (I <3 Samsung.)

Inspiration

As I said, we were experiencing a week of heavy, sometimes violent storms. That morning, looking out towards the yearling filly pasture, I saw the clouds rising up & over us as if I was standing beneath a giant, cathedral-like domed ceiling. It was a bit overwhelming but at the same time exciting. Meanwhile, the trees in the distance were silhouetted against the rising sun, giving contrast to the elements. Too, the red streaks in the lower part of the sky reminded me of a phrase my Dad (USNavy) would quote, "Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky at morning, sailor take warning". All things considered, how could I not take the shot?

Editing

No, none whatsoever.

In my camera bag

If nothing else, I always have my mobile in my pocket & I never know what I'll see. I've been in the horse industry all my life - there's always wonders to be found!

Feedback

Advice? Hmm... When you look at things, see them. Listen to your instincts. If something excites you or stirs an emotion, capture it & it's yours!
