Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Africa while on safari in the Tarangire National Park. August 9, 2017. I am a self taught nature lover photographer.

Time

The photo was taken on a cloudy afternoon.

Lighting

I was amazed at how clear the water images were considering the cloud cover. Having the clouds kept the glare off of the water.

Equipment

Camera was a Cannon EOS 40D with a Sigma DG 50-500mm 1:4.5-6.3 APO HSM lens.

Inspiration

The water really was my inspiration. Very clear and smooth. Considering the amount of water birds on the lake, the water hardly had a ripple.

Editing

No post processing.

In my camera bag

I have learned to always have rain protection equipment with you. Even in the Manyara & Arusha a quick rain storm can blow up. So a sleeve poncho doesn’t take up much space but can be just what you need to take the perfect shot that you would otherwise miss. I have learned the hard way to always pack rain gear.

Feedback

Normally you think of the big five, rhinos, lion, elephants, Hippopotamus, and giraffes while in Africa. But it is also a great place for birders. You need to be prepared for everything. If you can have two camera bodies with lenses already attached you can switch back and forth more easily when different shots are made available to you by Mother Nature. Also, having the two cameras is great because Africa is very dusty with red dirt. You can keep your camera cleaner not having to change lenses all of the time.
