Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at a RSPB site Loch Garten not far from Aviemore and is part of the Cairngorm National Park Scotland. It’s about a half hour drive from where I live and the area attracts a few birdwatchers and photographers due to the wildlife from nesting ospreys, crested tits, red squirrels, woodpeckers and the very entertaining coal tits. The coal tits if you have seed (black sunflower seeds are usually a big hit with these guys) will then pop onto your hands to feed and the more time you spend with them the more comfortable they get and they will land on an outstretched hand, the top of your head and on your camera even when the seed is finished, it’s a really lovely way to pass a couple of hours.

Time

Early afternoon

Lighting

The light was good, the area is wooded and can be quite dark and dull especially in early spring I was able to take photos with the ISO at 400

Equipment

Canon70d with EF300mm 1:4 lens f4, ISO 400, shutter 1/125

Inspiration

I love photographing wildlife and these little birds were happy to oblige

Editing

What you see is what you get, I sometimes crop, lighten or darken a shot. I don’t have any sort of post-processing packages like Darkroom etc

In my camera bag

Canon 70d usually with 18-135mm lens, EF 300mm 1:4 lens, a glass globe, and a canon powershot sx720

Feedback

Try a RSPB site, take some seed and patience you won’t regret it
