Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Bryce Canyon national park in Utah. This one of my very first pictures and I'm glad it turned out so well.

Time

I remember taking this shot during a hike with my family. It was taken in the late afternoon. Probably around 3:00 pm.

Lighting

Sence this was one of my first pictures I didn't really know what I wanted in the picture. I just saw the landscape and knew I had to capture the beautiful clouds and the colors of the rocks.

Equipment

I used my Canon Power Shoot A3400 IS. It is an old point and shoot that a friend gave me. There was no tripod used, I just took a few pictures until they weren't blurry an more.

Inspiration

I remember walking to the top of one of the many hills on the hike and seeing the view. I didn't realize until after i took the picture that the colors came through so well. I took pictures at multiple angles and this was the best shot.

Editing

I did not use any post-processing. being a new photographer I don't have that equipment but now knowing more about photography I think this image could be even better with a little post-processing.

In my camera bag

For this trip, all I had was this camera. I was not quite into photography yet, so I did not prepare to take pictures on the trip. Now when I go out to take pictures I take my Canon Rebel EOS T4i. I love this camera so much, it takes great pictures and is easy to use, especially for a beginner. I usually use an 18-200 Tamron lens. I also carry the original Canon 18-55 lens. I use this lens for shots that are closer to me.

Feedback

I would say that because the lighting can be harsh and can wash out the clouds and the rocks go later in the day. I would also recommend taking a picture and check to see if you like it, if not adjust and try again. Taking pictures like this can be tricky because there are a lot of variables that change. You have to be prepared to adapt to the conditions.
